Updated Information on VMware 6.5 support for EMULEX LPe11000 Officially VMware have discontinued driver support for this Chipset (Among others).
Charismac Engineering Inc. has updated its driver for the Emulex Fibre Channel host bust adapter (HBA). The new update now supports Mac OS X, enabling users of Emulex LP 6000, 7000 and 8000 cards to work on Mac OS X.
The news comes a month after Charismac's release of FibreShare v2, which enables storage area network (SAN) users to work in Mac OS X. CharisMac President and CEO Wyler Furgeson said that his company sees FibreShare v2.0 and the new Emulex drivers' combined release as a good opportunity to provoke some migration to Mac OS X in environments that have been relegated to Mac OS 9 up until now.
'Charismac as a company couldn't in good [conscience] require our customer base to purchase yet another expensive Fibre Channel HBA in addition to their other costs associated with moving their SANs (Storage Area Networks) to OS X,' said Furgeson.
The drivers are available as part of FibreShare v2.0, and have been shipping for a few weeks, although Charismac is only publicly announcing them today. Users interested in upgrading are advised to contact Charismac by e-mail for more details.
