- I have a westinghouse LCD monitor L2410NM. It has been great. Answered by a verified Mac Support Specialist. Can install a monitor driver to fix the problem. The max resolution for the monitor according to the user manual is 1920 x 1200. I thought about reinstalling my OS X to version 10.5.6 as a last resort.
The screen at 1920x1200 looks pretty awful (so does any other resolution) and washed out via hdmi.. doesnt matter if i run it through the receiver or directly into the screen..
Its my guess i need some sort of edid override perhaps? Or maybe a different fix if there is one..
I've read about people changing their edid info somewhere to fix this issue, but cant narrow down what i need to do..
I'm running this on an ati 5850 card.. for reference..
(Its not the cable, the port etc.. as the xbox hdmi looks fine)
Has anyone ran into this and might know of a solution?
I tried the video card edid override from here: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/25...issue#t2214829
Using this in the registry with no luck:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlVide o{15C897E6-7802-4E2A-9A5F-F48C61F71BBD}0000]
'OverrideEdidFlags0'=hex:5C,85,80,51,00,00,FF,FF,04,00,00,00,7E,01,00
Thanks

1920 x1200 is not a standard HDMI resolution but it is a stadard VGA resolution so maybe you should be using the units VGA interface instead.
Can you send it 1080i or 720p over HDMI?
Get it working properly without your A/V receiver first then try going through the A/V receiver again.
Your display/monitor has a 16x10 aspect ratio and a native resolution of 1920x1200,

Well the card only has dvi, hdmi and a display port..
I was using the dvi to hdmi cable originally, but now i'm sending truehd audio through the receiver and hdmi, so i need the hdmi to work somehow.
I tried the other resolutions but they are bad as well..
I know this involves some type of override, i'm just not clear on what i should be changing.

What is the actual make/model of the card with the 5850 chip.
For example see the DVI-I to VGA dongle in the picture of the parts for the 5850 card in the frollowing link:

I have never seen or even heard of PC graphics card that does not have a PC VGA connection or which does not come without a VGA dongle form a DVI-I or other connector.

Yes true it has the dvi to vga option, but that doesnt solve the issue of needing the hdmi port for audio.. i have 3 of these screens, which are used for eyefinity etc..
It does look the same (horrible) if going directly from the card to the hdmi (hdmi to hdmi)..
The edid raw info line is slightly different depending on whether it is dvi or hdmi..
I used moninfo and saved the mifs:
it appears on the hdmi one i has this:
Start Attribute
Name = 'Raw EDID w/o header'
ID = 13
Type = String(240)

If using the DVI to VGA dongle why can't you also send audio over R&W stereo cables from your PC to your display/monitor since it apparently also has built in speakers?
Because i'm doing TrueHD which can only be passed via the hdmi cable.. to my denon 790 receiver.

But it only pertained to nvidia graphics cards.. adding the registry entry etc for this particular monitor.. I'm not sure if there is a similar hack for ati.. so far i cant find it..
The closest reference i see is maybe an entry (where? type?) called EDID_OVERRIDE

I faced similar issue, when Nvidia GPU driver in my laptop couldn't correctly read EDID from this monitor's EEPROM when connected via either HDMI or D_Sub. The result was always awful. Later I connected same monitor to ATI 3870 GPU, and the card driver read EDID perfectly. Keep in mind, the monitor gives different EDID files for HDMI versus D-Sub connection. Also, not every GPU driver is able to read EDID from this monitor correctly.
So what I did to make it work with any GPU card? Connected to ATI 3870, started MonInfo utility from EnTech, read and saved the monitor's EDID with MonInfo in 2 files: one as .bin and the other converted to .inf thus making EDID_Overwrite Driver. Then opened the laptop's Win Device Manager and updated driver for the Westinghouse monitor, pointing to the .inf just created. Now my Nvidia Laptop works perfect with this monitor, it reads its EDID Override data from own Registry at each boot. You must update to latest GPU drivers, otherwise the driver may still attempt to read EDID from the monitor directly instead of Registry after the override. Do not attempt to write any modded EDIT to the monitor's EEPROM.
With Denon you may have less luck. Not sure, if Denon has a firmware user interface that would allow to change device drivers. Probably not. However, you can use a second DVI-to-HDMI Adapter, and setup multi-monitor config on your PC, so one HDMI cable will run straight to your monitor, another - to the Denon receiver. Yet another option - HDMI Splitter hooked to DVI-to-HDMI adapter connected to one of GPU ports. Such splitters are sold on EBay. That way you can send audio to Denon, and video directly to the monitor. If HDMI signal is weaken by the splitter (mostly on very long cable runs, hardly affects Audio), you may want to use an HDMI Switch with Equalizer (Monoprice sells the good and cheap one) or HDMI Repeater (it cleans from analog interference and amplifies signal a bit) on the Denon's end. Yes, its not that simple, but doable.
You may want to look for extra info here, if you need it:
