I was able to print with a foomatic driver from <http://www.linuxprinting.org/foomatic.html>

This is actually the same driver. The hpijs driver I linked to uses the foomatic driver that you gave the link for. The difference is that the page I linked to has an easy 'double-click to install' package instead of several archives that need to be downloaded and installed from the command line. :-)
With regards to the thread you mention, I also initially used one of the Gimp HP Laserjet drivers. The problem was that they didn't support double-sided printing. The hpijs drivers in the above install package support most printer features, including double-sided (duplex) printing.

Life saver! Works well with Aficio 1232C (OSX 10.3.9)

There are downloads now available for various Ricoh printers at llinuxprinting.org; see <http://www.linuxprinting.org/download/PPD/>. I downloaded the one for Ricoh Aficio 1060, chose it in the Printer Setup Utility (using HPJet Direct socket) and it works so far on my iBook. Haven't tried all the options yet.
BTW, an irony is that although the printer(copier/scanner) was set up for Windows use in our office, my 'unofficial' Mac is the only one that can make the printing function work. Kudos to open source.

Life saver work well with ricoh 2035e

We have three Savin/Ricoh MFP printers in our facility.

The simplest approach is to use the Generic PCL printer driver built into the Mac OS X system.

Determine the IP address for your printer.

On your Mac

Select Printer & Scanners

Click '+' to add printer

Ricoh Aficio Mp C4500 Manual

Choose the IP option

Ricoh Aficio Mp C4500 Pcl 5c

Key in the IP Address

For the Protocol: Choose HP JetDirect Socket

Queue: Remains Blank

Ricoh

Change the Name to a suitable name

Under use: Choose Generic PCL Printer.

Click Add.

Choose Duplexer if it is an option.

The Post Script is an option available for purchase on the Ricoh/Saving equipment. Not all equipment includes PS. I am surprised that the Mac Driver, however, is not available as a PCL driver.
